Theme:

In a culture where superheroes are celebrated, we want to explore who the real hero is. Human heroes fall short; Jesus is the only hero who never fails.

This summer at Hartland we want to learn what it means to strive according to His power, which mightily works within us, and not our own.

Activities

Dates and Speakers

Junior #1: July 5-7

  • Speaker: Chip Henderson

    Photo of Chip Henderson

After 25 years as a Children’s and Family Pastor, Chip felt a strong push from the Lord to get into a new mission field—teaching 8th graders in public school! He desires to teach this generation of kids about an authentic relationship they can have with a Savior who loves them beyond measure and promises to give them an abundant life. He uses God’s living Word, creative storytelling, lots of tangible illustrations, and a bit of crazy to captivate students and draw them into a faith that they choose for their own. Chip is a regular camp speaker across the west coast and enjoys time with his wife now that his three sons are all off to college.

Junior #2: July 28-August 2

  • Speaker: The Mr. J Band

Photo of The Mr. J Band

If you haven't seen the Mr. J Band in action then you don't know what you're missing. You'll sing songs, play games, enjoy great skits and learn from God's Word all at the same time.

Each day there is a cabin cleanup theme.

4th-6th Grade #1 - the Saturday cabin cleanup theme is anything related to the camp theme or your team name.

4th-6th Grade #2 - Monday is anything pertaining to the camp theme. Tuesday is manly men and girly girls. Wednesday is counselor appreciation day. And Thursday is traps and tricks. Many campers and counselors like to bring decorating supplies for this purpose. It's a fun way to build cabin unity and earn points for your team. Please do not use duct tape on walls or bunks, lipstick on mirrors, or anything else that leaves a mess.

Please put camper's name on everything!  If you find that your child has lost something, call the Camp Office at (559) 337-2349. Found items are only held for two (2) weeks after camp.

What Not to Bring

  • Electronic devices of any kind
  • Alcohol
  • Tobacco
  • Drugs (unless prescribed by a doctor)
  • Firearms
  • Fireworks

DRESS CODE

We have the unique opportunity to create a setting that fosters spiritual, relational, and personal growth.  Your dress can help or hinder that goal so please be modest.  While this list does not include every imaginable article of clothing or fashion trend, here are some guidelines to help you keep everyone's best interests in mind.

  • Tops end where bottoms begin.  Your midriff belongs behind one or the other.
  • We’re all about unity when it comes to swimwear. Please wear modest one-piece bathing suits only (or a colored T-shirt over).
  • Underwear belongs UNDER your other clothes.  Don't go showing it off.
  • Sleepwear is for sleeping in.  Please don't wear your jammies around camp.
  • Yoga pants are for doing yoga in.  Save the tight fitting pants/shorts for the gym back home or cover them with a long shirt.
  • And as ironic as it may sound, the longer the shorts the better.  At least fingertip length please.

That about “covers” it - please do likewise (pun intended).

Counselors

  • Bring a fan and an extension cord for your cabin. It’s hot up here and a fan really helps your campers to sleep.
  • Bring a large illuminated clock so you can keep your campers on schedule.

Parents

Hartland is very isolated and there are no gasoline stations nearby. Make sure you fill up before  you come up the mountain. If you are coming through Visalia, the last place to buy gas is in Lemon Cove. If you are coming from the North, the last place will be in Fresno.

Medical

It is our desire to provide a fun, yet safe, environment for each camper. In order to accomplish this, a Registered Nurse is on-site and available 24-hours-a-day to assist with medical emergencies, first-aid, and administration of medications. Please ensure that medical forms are filled out completely. All campers' medications must be in their original containers, labeled with name and clear instructions.
Medications should then be placed in one labeled zip-lock bag per individual. These bags are to be turned in to the nurse upon check-in.
